Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's One-Day International Lineup to Face Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series facing India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a shock inclusion.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI side following managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
